Philbrook started out as the private residence of Waite and Genevieve Philllips. It is a 72 room Italian Renaissance mansion completed in 1927. Mr. Phillips was an oilman, banker, rancher and philanthropist. He surprised the residents of Tulsa, OKlahoma by donating the mansion to the city in 1938. It then became a museum. It is one of the most respected and beautiful museums you will ever want to visit. The most sought after exhibitions often hang there. Among others, I viewed Remington's night paintings there a few years ago.
December 14th I am joining an online Christmas Tour of Homes and I was so tempted to open my post that day with the Christmas tree pictures and the grand hallway with the 15 or 20 ft tapestries. LOL-- I tried to include a picture with the staircase so you would have a frame of reference for just how large they truly are.
The Christmas tree is placed on a lighted dancefloor.
Midway down you will see a silhouette of my husband looking out the sunroom windows over some of the incredible grounds of Philbrook. The life-sized bust of Madonna and child are off to my husband's left.
After the Madonna and child, there is a picture of the intricately painted and carved ceilings and the back veranda and grounds. I hope you enjoy the tour. If you ever get over Tulsa way, they have an incredible Sunday brunch but needless to say, I only went once. It is a little pricey.
