HONOR THY FATHER!

Tomorrow is Father's Day and I couldn't help but think of the greatest Father ever. Of course, I speak of God, the Father. Did you know that the word "father" is used at least 121 times in the book of John? And most of those refer to God, the Father of Jesus.

John 5:22-25

22 Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, 23 that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.

24 "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life (not "will have" but "has"--that is a "here and now" phrase) and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life.

Italics, bolding, and information inside parentheses above is mine--

We have already crossed over from death to life. Can we wrap our minds and hearts around that statement? Oh, if only we could. We would live today as if we are already living in eternity.

Prayer for today: Father, I honor You today by honoring the One you sent to die for my sin. I acknowledge receiving and accepting your Son as the only means whereby I may be saved. While it is totally inconceivable to me how you had to turn your back on Jesus as He hung on the cross with the sin of everyone throughout history on his shoulders, I accept that You did that for me, because You loved me, and not only for me, but for all the people of the world--all nations, all tribes, all peoples everywhere.

I acknowledge Your holiness, Lord, and know that is the reason for You turning your back to Jesus. You could not look upon the sin, my sin. Lord, our finite minds cannot grasp Your holiness and Your glory but we pray for a glimpse of it, even today.

As the psalmist declares: "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain."
Ps 139:66

It seems so inadequate to say, "Father, I love you." But please accept that as my offering to You today. In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.
